API vs UI scraping

Peec AI scrapes the web interfaces of AI models, interacting with them as a real user would. This captures exactly what end users see, including formatting and web search results.

Cited Monitor calls the APIs directly using your keys. This is faster, more reliable, and lets you choose specific models and parameters. It also means you control the costs directly.

The trade-off used to be larger. We now run OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral and Perplexity with live web search enabled, so for those models the gap with the consumer UI is small. Open-weight models served via Together have no native search — and we label every run so you know which is which.

When Peec AI might be better

If you need unlimited team seats, actionable content recommendations, or want to capture exactly what the consumer web UI shows (including browsing-enabled responses), Peec AI is designed for that.

“BYOK sounds like a lot of setup.”

It doesn't have to be. You can connect a single OpenRouter key and reach every model at once, trading a small routing fee for a two-minute setup, or start on our managed key with no key at all. Your own provider keys are the default we recommend because nothing sits between you and the model — but it's a choice, not a requirement. Compare the three modes.
