Gemini monitoring
What does Google Gemini say about your business?
Gemini powers Google's AI features — from the Gemini app to AI Overviews in search. When Google's AI talks about your industry, is your brand in the conversation?
Gemini is where search is going
Google is integrating Gemini into everything: search results, Gmail, Docs, Android. AI Overviews already appear at the top of search results for many queries, replacing the organic results you spent years optimising for.
When someone searches "best project management tools" and gets an AI Overview, the brands mentioned in that summary get the attention. Everyone else gets pushed below the fold.
Gemini's recommendations don't always match ChatGPT's or Claude's. Google has its own training data, its own search index, and its own biases. You need to monitor all of them. Tracking Gemini is also the closest proxy for AI Overviews — there's no public API for the Overview itself, but it's powered by the same model.
Why Gemini monitoring matters
The closest available read on Google's AI answers
AI Overviews sit above organic results and have no public API. Tracking the Gemini API with Google Search grounding is the nearest proxy you can actually run — same family of models, same live search signal. It is a proxy, not the surface itself, and we say so plainly below.
Massive built-in distribution
Gemini reaches billions of users through Google Search, Android, and Workspace. No other AI model has this kind of surface area.
Different data, different answers
Gemini draws on Google's search index, which means it may reflect different signals than ChatGPT or Claude. Your visibility can vary dramatically between models.
Rapid iteration
Google updates Gemini frequently. Each update can change which brands get recommended and which get dropped. Continuous monitoring is the only way to keep up.
Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode: what's actually trackable
These three get conflated constantly, usually by people selling something. They are different surfaces with genuinely different levels of access, so here is the honest map.
| Surface | Official API? | What you can see |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini API (what we track) | Yes | Full answer text, every brand named, rank order, and the grounding sources Google returns — including your competitors. |
| AI Overviews | No | Via Search Console: your own impressions only. Via SERP scrapers: partial, brittle and against Google's terms. |
| AI Mode | No | Same as above. Highly personalised, so even a scrape reflects one synthetic user rather than your market. |
Use Search Console alongside this, not instead of it
Google launched Generative AI performance reports in Search Console on 3 June 2026 and finished rolling them out worldwide on 31 August 2026. They cover AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI features in Discover, split by page, country, device and date, with data from 18 May 2026 onward and no historical backfill. The catch is that they report impressions without clicks, and they only ever describe you. Search Console can tell you whether you showed up. It cannot tell you who showed up instead. That second half is what Gemini tracking is for, and the two together are much stronger than either alone.
How Cited Monitor tracks Gemini
You write the prompts your customers ask. The phrasings that precede a shortlist in your market, not the keywords you used to bid on.
We run them against Gemini with Google Search grounding enabled. Answers reflect live search rather than training data alone. You use your own Google API key and pay Google directly at their published rates.
We capture the answer and the grounding sources behind it. Every named brand, the order they appear in, and the URLs Google leaned on. The source list is usually the most actionable part of a Gemini report.
Runs repeat weekly so you can see movement, not a snapshot. Because grounded answers track live search, a content or PR change can show up within days — which also means a competitor's can.
